The Seven Fundamental Movement Patterns

What are the seven fundamental movement patterns? Hopefully this serves as a reminder, and you’re already regularly putting these movement patterns into practice. If you’re training with me, rest assured, you are ๐Ÿ™‚

The seven fundamental human movements, or the seven basic human movements, are the foundation which any solid training program is built upon. When executed correctly, these movements will lead to enhanced performance in any fitness program and will aid in developing high performing athletes.

The seven basic human movements (and a few examples of each) are:

  1. Push (Push Up, Bench Press)
  2. Pull (One Arm Row, Pull Up)
  3. Hinge (Deadlift, Kettlebell Swing)
  4. Squat (Goblet Squat, Back Squat)
  5. Loaded Carry (Farmer’s Carry, Suitcase Carry)
  6. Rotation (Russian Twist, Palloff Press)
  7. Anti Rotation (Single Arm Kettlebell Swing, Suitcase Deadlift)

When putting together a workout without the help of a qualified trainer, refer to the list above. As long as you touch on each of these categories, you’ll end up with an awesome workout! And always reach out to me for more suggestions of movements, I have no shortage of ideas of ways to torture, er, challenge you ๐Ÿ˜‰
